Opening a bank account in Thailand

    From the past, many foreigners have faced a problem in opening a bank account in Thailand. But from now on, any foreigner will be able to easier open a Thai Bank Account than the past by using a Thai Tourist Visa or a Non Immigrant Visa only. Also, once you have opened the bank account, you can apply for additional services of the bank such as: Debit Card (ATM), Phone Banking and Internet Banking which will plentifully increase the conveniences for the foreigners who will need to make any business transaction over the phone or via internet.     For the type of account which the foreigners can open with the Thai Bank, will be divided for two types:

1.  Resident Baht Account 
    - Able to deposit/withdraw with the passbook at a counter of the bank OR through the ATM machines

2.  Foreign Currency Deposit Account 
    - For this account type will be an appropriate way to make the international transactions in foreign currencies. The foreign customers can deposit funds in any of following currencies:

Required documents for opening a bank account in Thailand

1. In the case of working inside Thailand, the applicant must show the original passport and work permit.
2. In the case of living permanently inside Thailand, the applicant must show the original passport with the certificate of residence or the alien certificate along with house registration.
3. In the case of living temporarily inside Thailand, this also means that a tourist, the applicant must show the original passport together with one of following required documents:
   
   A. A Certified Letter from a respected person which is acceptable from the bank such as: a Bank Staff, a respected teacher or a respected company director, along with the person's a certified true copy of identification document e.g. ID card or government official ID card. OR
   B. A Certified Letter from a respectable institution such as: an embassy of the applicant or an international associtation. OR
   C. A Certified Letter from a bank abroad of the applicant which is acceptable to the Bank in Thailand. OR
   D. A driving license attaching the applicant's photo.
